HOW TO: FACIALS AT HOME

Updated: Nov 15, 2019

Whether it's because you're too busy or because you don't have a budget, booking facials can be a bit of a chore. But if you're like us who can't live without our monthly treatments, then we got you. Here are some of the ways to get facials like the estheticians from the poshest clinics do it.

BUT FIRST!

Pre-facial ritual:

Like the treatment itself, the things you do before it starts are important. They set the mood and make it easier for the procedure ahead. So don your most comfortable shirt, tie your hair up and put on a calming playlist on Spotify.

At-Home Facials

We've come up with an extensive but still easy-to-do treatment for you. We've covered the basics but you can add or remove any of these to suit you and your skincare needs. The steps are as follows:

woman removing makeup

1. Remove makeup

Start the treatment off with removing any makeup you might have from the day. We recommend using a good cleanser oil or balm. We find they're really good at melting makeup off without stripping the skin of moisture.

2. Cleanse

Get rid of stubborn makeup residue and deep-seated dirt by using a face wash. We recommend you use a facial brush to unclog pores and gently exfoliate the skin.

Why not try: Iconique's Maxiclean along with Aqua Mineral's Daily Dewdrops Cleanser.

3. Steam

Now here comes the most relaxing part of the treatment: steaming! It opens up the pores to soften the skin and make skincare penetrate deeper into the skin. Plus, it just feels like you're in a spa while you do it. If you don't have a steamer on hand, place hot water on a bowl and add a few drops of your favorite essential oils. Voila! A DIY facial steamer.

4. Exfoliate

A must in every facial treatment, exfoliation gets rid of dead skin cells. This process leads to a bright and even skin tone. Use your favorite facial scrub or peeling gel for this step.

Why not try: Aqua Mineral's Milky Facial Scrub or Botanifique's Face-It Peeling Gel.

Botanifique Magnifique Facial Mask

5. Apply Mud Mask

A crucial step as it sucks out impurities from deep within the skin. Plus, it makes for a great Instagram post, right?

6. Tone

Even out your pH balance and prepare your skin for the next steps by using a toner. We recommend you use one that has no alcohol or astringent properties as it will dry out your skin.

Aqua Mineral Facial Sheet Mask

7. Apply Sheet Mask

Get moisture back to your skin by soaking it up with a hydrating sheet mask. Plop these on for 15-20 minutes to get some much-needed moisture.

8. Apply Treatments

You can customize your treatment at this part depending on the skin concern you wish to target. Whether it's treating hyperpigmentation or oily skin, this is the time to do it. We recommend you invest in beauty devices to help you achieve the results you usually get at your local spa.

Why not try: Any of Iconique's devices from their classic collection.

9. Apply Eye Cream

Treat the sensitive skin around your eyes with your favorite eye cream. It'll lift and prevent wrinkles in the future.

Why not try: Aqua Mineral's best seller Puffiness Eraser.

Botanifique Highlight Brightening Moisturizing Cream

10. Moisturize

And finally, seal in moisture and all the other good stuff with a moisturizer. We recommend one that has collagen and elastin for a plumper and firmer skin.
